Artist Statement

I’ve always loved art—the way it allows you to express yourself, to find yourself, to lose yourself—all at once. I design mixed media works in a abstract, loose and whimsical style(s). My paintings, collages and markings often emerge from an emotion-driven, intuitive process where feelings and instinct help guide my choices and approach.

As an artist, I’m drawn to both natural elements and geometric forms—especially round shapes and whimsically rendered flowers that appear throughout my compositions. My work explores spaces where playfulness and contemplation coexist.

I create using various types of pigment and paper. I primarily work with watercolor, acrylic, gouache, pastels and alcohol ink. Paper types I use include tissue, teabag, deli, rice, copy, and tracing paper. I also use mineral paper made from stone, it’s a sustainable alternative to traditional paper that comes from trees. I particularly like the effects with alcohol ink, liquid acrylic and watercolor for smooth blending and vibrant colors.

Monoprinting has enhanced my artistic approach and expanded my self-expression. Blending different mediums together adds an element of surprise with each impression. It gives me inspiration, and especially when facing the intimidation of staring at blank, empty canvas.

As an experienced graphic designer and artist , I have a great affection for design. I draw inspiration from the abstracts and whimsical styles and from my appreciation and love for nature.
